The hidden Angel Room in The Forge sits behind the cracked reliquary wall on the third landing of the Bellows Descent, and it only responds if you are carrying a Consecrated Key (or a full set of three Sanctum Sigils) and your Sanctity is at 60 or higher. The reliable route is: clear biome two, take the Bellows Lift down instead of the Ash Vent shortcut, ring both hanging censers on the second landing within about eight seconds of each other, then hold the interact prompt on the gold seam for three seconds. If the seam glows but no prompt appears, your Sanctity is too low; if the prompt appears and cancels after roughly a second, you are carrying the Oathbreaker curse.

What the Angel Room actually is

The Angel Room is a non-combat reward chamber in the Bellows Descent, the third biome of The Forge. It contains one guaranteed Angelic Relic, no enemies, and no boss gate — which is why it is worth routing around, since the Relic pool is otherwise gated behind the Ash Warden rematch. There is exactly one Angel Room per run, and it is always in the Bellows Descent. It does not appear in the Cinderworks or the Slagfields.

Prerequisites before the door will respond

Five conditions are checked in order. If any one fails, the seam stays inert and you get no prompt at all — which is the single most common reason players assume the room is a myth.

Requirement Required value or state Where to verify it
Sanctity 60 or higher (starts at 100, cap 100) Halo meter, top-left of the HUD
Key item 1× Consecrated Key or 3/3 Sanctum Sigils Relic satchel, key slot
Curses No Oathbreaker curse active Status bar beneath the health pips
Route Entered the biome via the Bellows Lift Map label reads “Reliquary Landing”
Demonic Pacts Zero taken this run Pact ledger on the pause screen

Why the Sanctity number matters so much

Sanctity is a running total, not a stat you level. It starts at 100 each run and only ever moves down or back up through specific events. Per the in-game codex, the modifiers are:

  • Ash Vent shortcut into the Bellows Descent: −15
  • Each Demonic Pact accepted: −40
  • Each non-hostile NPC killed: −25
  • Reliquary Font charge used at a shrine: +10, up to the 100 cap

A worked example: you take the Ash Vent shortcut (−15) and accept one Demonic Pact for the damage buff (−40). That leaves you at 45. The Angel Room threshold is 60, so the seam will not glow no matter how many Consecrated Keys you are holding. Two shrine charges bring you back to 65 and the prompt returns. If you had taken the Lift instead and skipped the Pact, you would still be at 100 and could walk straight in.

The route, step by step

  1. Finish biome two and take the Bellows Lift. The Lift is the only descent that preserves Sanctity. The Ash Vent is faster by roughly two minutes but costs 15 Sanctity and relabels the map, which desyncs the censer puzzle later. Reason: the room checks your entry route, not just your items.
  2. On entry, hug the right wall. The Bellows Descent is laid out as three descending landings connected by gantries. The right-hand path is the only one that reaches all three; the left path dead-ends at the Collapsed Nave. Reason: the censers you need are on the right side of the second landing.
  3. On the second landing, ring both hanging censers. There are two: one gold-trimmed censer beside the gantry rail, and a second one behind a breakable iron grate on the far side. Ring them within about eight seconds of each other. Reason: ringing one alone spawns an elite Ash Hound instead of opening the side gate, and the eight-second window is what the game uses to confirm both were intentional.
  4. Break the grate with any heavy attack, then ring the second censer. A light attack will bounce. Reason: the grate has a stagger threshold only heavy attacks meet.
  5. Cross the Slag Bridge to the third landing. The bridge only extends once the side gate opens, so if you cannot cross, step 3 failed silently.
  6. Find the cracked reliquary wall. It is the flat wall directly opposite the headless statue, with a thin gold seam running vertically through the stone.
  7. Hold interact on the seam for three seconds. With a Consecrated Key this is a single uninterrupted hold. With a Sanctum Sigil set it takes three separate interactions, one per sigil, each with its own shorter hold. Reason: the key is consumed on a single check; the sigils are consumed one at a time.
  8. Enter and loot. The room is a safe zone — no enemies spawn and the door seals behind you.

Landmarks that confirm you are in the right place

  • Two chained censers with gold trim, both hanging from the same beam. If you only see one, you have not reached the second landing.
  • The Headless Seraph — a winged statue with the head broken off, standing at the end of the Slag Bridge. The reliquary wall is directly opposite it.
  • A nine-pointed star mosaic on the floor of the third landing. The seam runs down the centre point of the star when viewed from the bridge.
  • An audio cue: the ambient forge drone drops out and a low choir layer fades in. This plays when you are within about ten metres of the seam, which makes it a useful search tool in the dark sections.

Which entry method fits your run

Two valid ways in, and picking the wrong one wastes a run’s worth of resources.

Your situation Best entry method Cost Trade-off
Full run, no Pacts, Sanctity 80+ Consecrated Key 1 key, 0 Sanctity Fastest — single 3-second hold
Took the Ash Vent shortcut Sanctum Sigil set (3/3) 3 sigils, +shrine charges Slower, three separate holds, and you may still need a shrine top-up
Sanctity 60–79 Shrine top-up first, then either method 1 Font charge per +10 Below 60 the seam is inert regardless of keys
Oathbreaker curse active Clear the curse at the Reliquary Font, then Key 1 Font charge The curse blocks the prompt entirely, not just the door

If the Angel Room will not open

Work down this list in order. Each symptom has one dominant cause, so you rarely need to check more than two.

Symptom Most likely cause Fix
Seam glows, no prompt appears Sanctity below 60 Use shrine charges (+10 each) until the halo meter reads 60+
Prompt appears, cancels after ~1 second Oathbreaker curse Clear it at the Reliquary Font — curse removal costs one charge
Map reads “Collapsed Nave” instead of “Reliquary Landing” You entered via the Ash Vent, not the Lift Finish the run and re-enter through the Lift; the censer puzzle will not register
Only one censer is visible Second censer is behind the iron grate Heavy attack the grate; light attacks bounce
Slag Bridge will not extend Censers were rung outside the 8-second window Leave the landing and return to reset both censers, then ring them back to back
Door opens but the room is bare Already looted on this seed Nothing to fix — the Angel Room is once per run and does not restock

What is inside

Reward weights below are the values listed in the current build’s loot table. The Relic itself is guaranteed; everything else is a roll.

Reward Chance Notes
Angelic Relic (one of six) 100% Drawn from the Sanctified pool only
Sanctified Ember ×2–4 100% Upgrade material
Second Relic roll ~25% Independent of the first
Winged Sigil (cosmetic) ~12% Purely visual

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to beat a boss to open the Angel Room?

No. The Angel Room is not gated behind the Ash Warden or any other encounter. The only checks are your key item, your Sanctity value, your entry route, and whether you are carrying the Oathbreaker curse. Many players reach the Bellows Descent, ring the censers, and walk straight in without fighting anything on the third landing.

Can I still get in after accepting a Demonic Pact?

Not in the same run. Accepting a Pact sets your Sanctity to a maximum that is below the 60 threshold for the rest of that run — one Pact costs 40, which drops you from 100 to 60 only if you have lost nothing else, and any shortcut or NPC kill pushes you under. Finish the run and start a fresh one if you want the Relic.

Does the Angel Room move between runs?

The room is always on the third landing of the Bellows Descent, directly opposite the Headless Seraph, so the location never changes. What does change is the layout of the gantries leading to it, since the Bellows Descent is procedurally assembled. The right-hand wall rule and the censer pair are consistent across seeds.

Is the Consecrated Key or the Sanctum Sigil set better?

The Consecrated Key is better in almost every case: it costs one item and one three-second hold. The Sigil set exists as a fallback for runs that took the Ash Vent shortcut, because the shortcut strips the key slot from your satchel. If you have both, use the key and save the sigils for a later run.

Can I leave the Angel Room and come back?

No. The reliquary door seals behind you and does not reopen on that run. Take everything on the pedestal before you exit, including the second Relic roll if it spawned. If you walk out with an item still on the plinth, it is gone.

Does difficulty change the Sanctity requirement?

No. The 60 threshold is fixed across difficulty settings, and the per-event Sanctity penalties are identical. Higher difficulties change enemy density and damage numbers in the Bellows Descent, which makes the censer run harder to execute, but not the door’s requirements.
